About me

Born in Gijón, Asturias, and living in Mexico since 1986, Carmen Nozal has forged one of the most solid and sensitive careers in contemporary Spanish-language poetry. Her work—deeply marked by mysticism, social justice, and memory—moves between free verse and classical forms.

A graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the School of Writers of the General Society of Writers of Mexico, she has published more than twenty books of poetry, partially translated into English, French, Italian, German, Greek, and other languages. She has received awards such as the Elías Nandino National Young Poetry Prize, the Asturias Literature Prize, the Naji Naaman Prize (Lebanon), and an honorary doctorate.

She is the author of transdisciplinary projects with visual artists and the bilingual video Around the World with 80 Poets . She has taught workshops and lectures at institutions such as UNAM, UAM, INBAL and the Cloister of Sor Juana . As a cultural promoter, she has developed programs at the Casa del Poeta Ramón López Velarde , UNICEF Mexico, the National Museum of Art (MUNAL) , Casa del Poeta and the Undersecretariat of Cultural Diversity of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico .
